Why there are so many open pull requests?

I want to contribute to this project but I wonder if my PR can be reviewed because there are so many open PRs. I don’t think the maintain team is active much. Or is there any specific reason? What do I do? Can I proceed to contribute?

Yes, you can proceed to contribute. The vLLM team encourages contributions, but the team is small and must prioritize some PRs over others. After you submit a PR, it will be assigned to a reviewer, and you should expect status updates every 2-3 days. If your PR is not reviewed within 7 days, you are encouraged to ping the reviewer or the vLLM team for attention. Contributors are also encouraged to join the public Slack (slack.vllm.ai) to coordinate and request reviews directly, which can help speed up the process if things are slow. The review process is designed to be transparent and responsive, but delays can happen due to limited resources. According to the official contributing guide and community discussions, active engagement (e.g., pinging in Slack) is recommended if you need a review.
